POPULAR skipper Mitch Aubusson believes the Roosters’ Auckland Nines triumph has the team set to erase the pain of 2016.
Aubusson admits he and his team-mates – minor premiers for three years running in 2013-14-15 – are still hurting from missing the finals last year.
The Roosters wanted to make a statement at the Nines – and did so minus many of their big names in a great sign for the club’s long-term future.
“It wasn’t much fun watching the finals last year – I could barely sit down in front of the TV,” Aubusson says.
“I didn’t enjoy my holidays and couldn’t wait for the new season to come around.
“I feel I had my best pre-season in 12 years and am raring to go.
“This win is a great shot in the arm for us and will do wonders for our confidence.”
