THE Dragons are considering renewing their interest in local junior Jackson Hastings following the tragic knee injury to young halfback Drew Hutchison yesterday.
Hutchison suffered a serious cruciate knee injury at training, with the youngster earmarked to replace Benji Marshall in the halves expected to miss much of the coming season.
The Dragons have ruled out chasing former NRL bad boys Todd Carney or Chris Sandow – or Hastings, who is out of favour at the Roosters.
But RLW is hearing that Hastings’ manager Sam Ayoub is likely to re-open talks with the Dragons today – weeks after the youngster’s proposed move to Wollongong broke down.
Hastings played all his junior football for the Dragons before joining the Roosters and his family still live on the NSW south coast.
The Dragons have other options to partner Gareth Widdop – youngsters Jai Field or Shaun Nona and former Canberra veteran Josh McCrone.
But Hastings shapes as their best option and the Roosters would not stand in his way if he asks for a release.
