IMPRESSIVE rookie Braidon Burns is set to miss out on South Sydney’s team for the season opener despite his two try performance in last weekend’s Charity Shield win over the Dragons.

RLW has been told the Panthers junior has lost out to local junior Siosifa Talakai as the replacement for injured Aaron Gray for the round one clash against Wests Tigers at ANZ Stadium.

Burns was expected to be a good chance for a centre or wing spot following his starring role against the Dragons.

But coach Michael Maguire has opted for 19-year-old Talakai, who played three NRL games last season, in the centres with Hymel Hunt.

Tryscoring ace Alex Johnston and the experienced Bryson Goodwin will be on the flanks, with Greg Inglis returning from injury at fullback.
